Our yoga practices

  • Hatha yoga

Wonderland Yoga TTC Immersion, incorporates hatha yoga discipline which is taught by our teachers in an Iyengar inspired manner.
The concept of hatha yoga equates to the concept of yin and yang. It harmonizes the sympathetic and para-sympathetic nervous system in a human body by working on energy centers (meridians), and directs the flow of prana (chi) to higher energy centers, thus giving us heightened and sensitive perception of our immediate surroundings. The hatha yoga classes in our immersion, help students gain a better sense of mind-body interaction and inter connective tissue communication. Fundamental classical asanas are taught in an interactive way, so our students know the alpha and omega of teaching these asanas to their prospective students in a confident manner.
The word Hatha also means ‘force’ in Sanskrit and may have this association because it is believed that its practice was challenging and ‘forced its results to happen’ on the yogi. The term Hatha yoga reflects to the physical techniques, from the older concept of Yoga. It is the set of tools we use to tune, purify, and adjust the subtle gross and spiritual aspects of the body, to make its passage in this world as harmonic as possible.

  • Ashtanga Yoga

The Ashtanga approach is composed of energetic series of poses linked to the breath in a moving meditation. It is often referred to as the original ‘power’ yoga. Ashtanga uses sun salutations to build heat and detoxify the body and then moves through a series of poses designed to heat, clean, open, and purify the body and mind.

Hands-on adjustments are an integral part of all Ashtanga Yoga classes as it helps the student move into a deeper embodiment of the pose.
You will also gain an understanding of the history of the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series and the four elements of Ashtanga yoga; Vinyasa, Ujjayi Breath, Bandhas and Dhristi.

  • Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga as exercise, incorporating principles of traditional Chinese medicine, with asanas (postures) that are held for longer periods of time than in other styles
Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body—the tendons, fasciae, and ligaments—with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. The sequences of postures are meant to stimulate the channels of the subtle body known as meridians in Chinese medicine and as nadis in Hatha yoga. A more meditative approach to yoga, its goals are awareness of inner silence, and bringing to light a universal, interconnecting quality.

  • BHAKTI YOGA

Bhakti Yoga is the Yoga of Devotion & the path of the heart. This form of Yoga has no physical practice, no poses & is deeply rooted in tradition.
This module is dedicated to learning how to teach and hold space for the most subtle practices of yoga that have a profound effect in our mind and psyche with the potential to transform our state of consciousness. The most popular expression of Bhakti Yoga is Kirtan. This is chanting mantra in a group setting, following a call & response format. The purpose of this is to move beyond the fluctuations of the mind & into the space of the heart. We practice, just to practice - offering pure, authentic expression for the higher good of all beings, everywhere.

Anatomy

Anatomy classes are movement centric and lay a lot of emphasis on understanding the essential and basic movements of joints in the yoga asanas.

Students will understand the inherent inter connectivity of the musculus-skeletal structure which will bring more clarity to their yoga teaching and self practice. Knowledge of correct movement, brings forth the hidden intelligence to express itself in a yoga asana. Anatomical awareness helps to attain correct movement and thus make us dwell deeper in our yoga asana practice.

Our functional anatomy classes ensure an understanding of the key muscles and bones involved in asana practice, and their associated health benefits and physiology related to movement. Your knowledge will expand as you examine the subtle yogic body systems: the chakras, nadis, koshas, and prana. By integrating both of these approaches, you will gain a holistic view of how yogic techniques work.

You will learn the following in your Anatomy classes:

  • Basic concepts of functional anatomy and and contraindications, healthy patterns of movement, etc.

  • Practical anatomy with a major emphasis on the skeletal system, muscular system, connective tissue, nervous system and movements of the major joints of the body.

  • Muscular and skeletal differences i.e. compression, tension, proportion and orientation theory.

  • Study of different regions of the body: Feet, knees, hips, spine and shoulders.

Philosophy

Yoga asanas without the understanding of yoga philosophy are mere acrobatics. Body without soul and humanity without philosophy are useless. Yoga as a philosophical system answers most of the existential questions of humanity. These ancient yet important texts will act as support as you enhance your personal yoga practice, skillfully guide others, and ultimately discover your own true nature.

Pranayama is translated as an extension of your prana force. It implies the set of breathing techniques in which your breath is altered intentionally to produce specific results. Practicing yoga, Pranayama, and meditation has significant health benefits.
